Spirit Woman Revisited

My first attempt at casting with porcelain didn't get very far, and in the mean time I'm revisiting an old sculpture that I first posted on March 1st, 2011. I've always liked this one. I've elongated her, given her more motion and curvature, and I'm making her shapes follow the lines of real muscles, to some extent. Its a fun piece to work with. The challenge now is coming up with something to add on to it so that I don't have to touch it directly with my fingers at all.

Metal Skeleton Setback

Unfortunately, the MIG welder that I've been using to make the metal skeleton ran out of argon last class, so I wasn't able to get any welding done. The acetylene welder is too slow for me. Anyway, I got a lot of cutting and grinding done, so the box is full of smaller bones ready to be used. I'm still happy with how its turning out, even if I didn't get as far as I'd wanted this semester. The next class (summer semester) starts again in a month, so I'll get back to this then.

Elongated Metal Skeleton Sketch

These are my sketches (made in Blender) for a metal sculpture that I'm working on in my class at the Torpedo Factory. I'm really enjoying the class so far. Next week is actually the last day, so I'm going to have to take another semester of the class to get this finished, but that's ok. I should be able to have the piece finished to take a picture and post it up next sunday. The concept is to have it be a garden sculpture and be holding a flower pot.
