Mushroom Man Again

I was going to post my progress on the mother figurine, but my camera is out of batteries and I can't find the charger. Quick update is-- I've started painting, but just barely. Instead, I have another mushroom man pose. I've been messing around with Blender again and I have to say, I really enjoy it. Because this blog is about the process, I have taken a screenshot of the actual view in Blender.

When I have more time, I want to attempt a more complex animation. I finally fixed the legs bones in the armature, so I can actually do something more complex now. I was really happy about that.

He's Back

I realized recently (with some help) that I don't have to wait any longer to put together a portfolio. I have enough pieces already. There is still a lot of work to do, but this is my preliminary list: Mother Figurine, Spirit Woman, Bird Woman, Female Nude, Male Nude, two pieces of pottery, metal raven, plaster carving, stone flower, and maybe a drawing. All of these pieces have been posted on this blog at some point. The first one to find them all, wins!

Figurine Update 4

I'm finally letting it dry out, but I'm really paranoid about it cracking. I have already seen one small crack in her stomach, which isn't surprising considering the hollow interior creates a difference in thickness around there. I smoothed the crack out and compressed the clay around it. Hopefully she will dry out without any serious cracking.

Dances with Rain

Nothing new from me, but another one of my friends has an awesome blog that everyone should check out. It is in the blog list in the sidebar on the right. It is about "Ideas, creations, dance…whatever". Go, read some poetry, expand your mind, a maybe comment on a few posts.

Figurine Update 3

I guess that the changes are less noticeable each time I post an update. I'm still not happy with her facial structure and the way that she is holding her arms. I did make a change to the left arm, and I think that it looks better.

The first picture shows the figure's base. It's cut from a stone that my mom and I found in a dumpster near our house. I had it cut and polished at a place in Arlington.

Figurine Update 2

Back-to-back posts! Brings me back to the times when I used to post every day.

The thing is, the phrase "x-by-day" usually means that the person does something more interesting by night. When I started I didn't have a job and could sculpt any time, but I really only named the blog like this because I posted every day. Now I sculpt pretty much only by night, and only post every once in a while, so the title is completely inaccurate. I guess it can refer to my dream- to actually be a sculptor full time.

Figurine Update

The piece is coming along, but it gets frustrating at times. Sometimes tiny changes make a huge difference at this scale. Thankfully, I was able to spend a significant amount of time working on it this past weekend. Hope you guys like it- suggestions are always welcome.
