Figurine Update 4

I'm finally letting it dry out, but I'm really paranoid about it cracking. I have already seen one small crack in her stomach, which isn't surprising considering the hollow interior creates a difference in thickness around there. I smoothed the crack out and compressed the clay around it. Hopefully she will dry out without any serious cracking.

Dances with Rain

Nothing new from me, but another one of my friends has an awesome blog that everyone should check out. It is in the blog list in the sidebar on the right. It is about "Ideas, creations, dance…whatever". Go, read some poetry, expand your mind, a maybe comment on a few posts.

Figurine Update 3

I guess that the changes are less noticeable each time I post an update. I'm still not happy with her facial structure and the way that she is holding her arms. I did make a change to the left arm, and I think that it looks better.

The first picture shows the figure's base. It's cut from a stone that my mom and I found in a dumpster near our house. I had it cut and polished at a place in Arlington.

Figurine Update 2

Back-to-back posts! Brings me back to the times when I used to post every day.

The thing is, the phrase "x-by-day" usually means that the person does something more interesting by night. When I started I didn't have a job and could sculpt any time, but I really only named the blog like this because I posted every day. Now I sculpt pretty much only by night, and only post every once in a while, so the title is completely inaccurate. I guess it can refer to my dream- to actually be a sculptor full time.

Figurine Update

The piece is coming along, but it gets frustrating at times. Sometimes tiny changes make a huge difference at this scale. Thankfully, I was able to spend a significant amount of time working on it this past weekend. Hope you guys like it- suggestions are always welcome.

Mother and Child

Some pics of my progress on a new project. I'm making this for a friend at my office. The subject matter is difficult, and I really don't have much time to work, but I'm making slow progress.

My Very First Animation

My very first 3d animation, using Blender. It looks pretty simple, but I had to learn how to model a mesh, apply materials and textures to it; do some basic sculpting on it, build, rig and skin an armature for it; animate the armature, and render the animation. Also a million other little things-- it took many hours and weeks of reading and watching tutorials and experimenting. Hope you guys like it.
