Day 55

Lips are one of the hardest parts of the face for me to make. I used http://philippefaraut.com for reference. If anyone wants to buy me his book, I am perfectly ok with that. Anyway, I feel that I learned a lot doing this- these are by far the best lips I have made.

Day 54

This was going to be like The Metamorphosis of Narcissus's head, but due to time constraints I had to made a mushroom instead of a flower. I kind of like the idea of changing it to a mushroom, though.

Day 53

Perhaps not my best piece, but certainly my most unusual medium yet. This is made from a mashed-up, over-ripe banana at my sisters place. His eyes are too far up, so he kind of looks more like a monkey than a person. Coincidence? You decide.

Day 52

There was a baseball on my desk the first day of work, and I quickly took it apart. This sculpture is made out of the cork inside.

Hidden blade update

Hidden blade update. Its almost working- I've had it both extend and retract at some point. Next step- getting screws in the top and sides to keep it all secure. Because of the fact that it is see-through, I can close it and still see what is happening (or not happening) on the inside, so that is pretty cool.

Day 51

The first, bald version, is what I did on day 51. The other version has things that I added on day 52. I made this guy with a pocket knife and a tool that I made from a pen. I want to start attempting to carve emotional faces- this guy is a little subdued.

Day 50

I can't believe that I'm at day 50 already. Got behind a bit in posting- but I've got the sculptures to catch up. Here is something a little different today, inspired by Kano from Mortal Kombat. About the face- a lot of what I know about making faces is from drawing classes, and I feel that here I'm more drawing a face on a piece of clay than molding one. I made another face today (I'm actually posting on day 51), and its much better. I'll put up pictures tomorrow.

Day 49

Finally exhausted from endlessly wandering the white blankness of the Void, he raises a fist and curses the heavens-- resistant to the end.

Day 48

Its a heart. I like my metal one better. Its really not easy to come up with ideas for a sculpture every single day. I think that this project has been good practice in the process of finding inspiration as much as it has been in actual sculpting.

Day 47

I dont' know whats up with these creepy sculptures recently. This is one that I think looks better in real life, but what are you going to do?

Hidden blade

Here is my progress on the hidden blade project. I'm actually a little farther than in the last picture, but its in small things. I'm really happy with how everything is coming along so far.

Day 46

This sculpture is a little shy- its avoiding eye contact.

Day 45

I was messing around with possible faces for #40. I like some things, don't like others. The eyes are pretty cool I think, especially because they are so easy to make while still looking cool. Unfortunately, I think that they look better in real life than in the pictures.

Day 45

Very simple sculpture, made during my lunch break. The second picture is just of my desk, although you can see the crane in it.

Day 43

Something different today. I usually only show one view of these sculptures, and its often because they are only one-sided. My sculpture today is the opposite side of yesterday's sculpture, so now he is a complete piece. Like the first side, there might be a patch released to bring this to version 2.0. We'll see.

Day 42

Experimenting with swirly things. Kind of looks like a fossil.

Day 41

This is #40 version 2.0. I personally like this one better. Multiple views just for you, tina.

Day 40

This guy was inspired by Umberto Boccioni's "Unique Forms of Continuity in Space". I tried to create motion with repetition of lines, etc. He's a bit too muscled for me, should be more abstract. I might keep working on him.

Day 39

Its a rectangle with a tie. Why does a rectangle need a tie? Why does a human need a tie? Why do I need a tie? 'Cus I'm no longer unemployed! First day of work= 7/15/10.

Day 38

This is based off of my memory of a wooden sculpture in my house that I haven't seen for a long time. My dad recognized the influence and said that the wooden one is a Buddha, showing that life as suffering. I think of this guy as being like Rodin's The Thinker- while Rodin's piece thinks with his whole body, every muscle flexed, mine mourns with all of his.

Day 37

Another one that Noah will recognize-- the helmet of a chaos space marine. Both of these have been a lot of fun to make.

Monday, July 12, 2010

Day 36

Probably Noah will be the only one who knows what this is. Its the helmet of a futuristic elven race called the Eldar, from Warhammer 40k. I really like these guys.

Day 35

Its a chess piece. Harder to make than it looks.

Friday, July 9, 2010

Day 34

This was fun to make. The celestial sphere is a ceramic jug covered in clay, and Atlas has a dremel tool bit through his body holding up the weight.

Day 33

This is a ceramic representation of the components of what will soon (hopefully) be a plexi-glass, double-action, out-the-front, assassin's creed-style, hidden wrist-blade. So cool.

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Day 32

This was much harder than the clay, both because it is all subtractive and because the foam is difficult to use. I think that it will serve its purpose though, along with its clay brother- as a reference for the plaster version.

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Day 31

Today is a special day- I start my second month, and this piece is hopefully the beginning of a larger project. It is inspired by Michelangelo's unfinished works, as well as by Sisyphus and Atlas.

I froze a block of sculpey and carved this out, additive and subtractive style, as practice for the next step-- carving it out of foam. I want to eventually carve it out of plaster.

Day 30

Today is a special day- this is my thirtieth sculpture- one month. This one is something I've wanted to do for a while. Its not perfectly accurate, both because its hard to find consistent diagrams on the internet and because I can't make it perfect. Lets go for month two!

Monday, July 5, 2010

Day 29

Something different today- made entirely out of printer paper. Definitely the most precarious piece yet.

Sunday, July 4, 2010

Day 28

This is modeled from an over-sized chess piece/book-end. I think it would be really cool to make a full chess set.

Friday, July 2, 2010

Day 27

Another raven-- I really like this form.
