Alabaster Swallow

A huge project at work kept me from doing more than a few hours of sculpture the week before last. I've been working with wax, but I'm feeling like moving away from representational so we will see how the wax goes. This last week was spend making this little bird, about an inch and a half long. I gave it to Tina as part of our 3 year anniversary.

The Age of Bronze

Of course, as soon as I say that I haven't had any time to do sculpture, I have a day to relax and get some work done.
This guy is actually the same as the wax figure that I posted on November 3rd. I've just modified and redefined it. I included a picture of the old version to show the progress that I've made in figure sculpting. I still have a long, long way to go, but I'm getting there slowly.

Pictureless Update

I see this blog as a way to show my friends and family what I am working on. That's why there are usually more pictures than paragraphs. Unfortunately, I've been really busy recently, and I haven't been able to do much work.
We started working on a new model in figuring sculpting on Saturday. Not as much fun as the previous model, but still good.
I'm working on a wax piece based off of Rodin's The Age of Bronze.
We have made a lot of progress in moving my room to the basement of our townhouse, and the idea is that I will set up a studio area. I'm looking forward to that- I need a space dedicated to art.

I'll post some pictures when I get some more work done on the wax piece.

Resin Artichoke

Here is the resin cast. It is much more cloudy on the outside then I wanted-- I think that it is because of the excessive amount of spray-release that I used. When I did a practice pour into a plastic cup it bonded with the plastic, so I was being overly cautious. A lot of bubbles in this too, and the black at the tip is still soft for some reason. I will do another pour and see if I can get a better result.
